Roller or sectional?
The honest answer is that it depends on your ceiling and your budget.
A sectional door runs back along the ceiling on horizontal tracks. It gives you a flatter, more architectural face, better insulation options and a wider choice of profiles, and it is what most people picture when they picture a new garage door. It needs headroom to do it.
A roller door coils into a roll above the opening instead. The roll is about 400mm to 450mm deep, so it still needs headroom or a cavity to sit in, which is why we measure it rather than assume it. What you get back is the room itself, because nothing runs along the ceiling, and a price that is a little lower. What you give up is the flat face, the choice of profiles and the panel insulation.

Common questions
More than people expect. The roll itself is about 400mm to 450mm deep, so there has to be headroom or a cavity above the opening for it to sit in, and the exact figure depends on the door size and whether it is automated. We measure it on site rather than working from your numbers. What a roller door avoids is the tracks running back along the ceiling, so nothing intrudes into the room itself.
Not in the way a sectional door can. A sectional door takes Autex insulation bonded to each panel, whereas a roller door has to coil into a drum, so it cannot carry the same panel insulation. If insulation matters to you, because the garage is attached to the house or you use it as a workshop, gym or office, a sectional door is the better choice. We can still improve a roller door noticeably with good guide and floor seals.
Yes, and most people do. You get a quiet motor with safety sensors that stop and reverse the door if anything crosses the opening, operated by a remote or from your phone. Doors above 2.4m high can also take a chain drive. Fitting the motor at the same time as the door costs less than bringing someone back for a second visit, and the door and motor get balanced to each other from the start.

A straightforward residential roller door and motor is usually under three hours. A bigger opening, an awkward site, or a job that needs the old door removed and the opening made good can take most of the day. We confirm the timing when we book you in rather than leaving you guessing, and if anything on site changes that estimate we tell you before we start rather than afterwards.
