We are a family run business taking care of garage doors from the North Shore to Silverdale up to Warkworth and Mangawhai. Our team is committed to excellence, and pride ourselves on efficiency and integrity.
Our story
Garage Door Group started out in the Warkworth area as Warkworth Garage Doors. It soon expanded to take in Silverdale and the Mangawhai areas. Founder Chris Hawkins decided to consolidate and ‘group’ the three businesses under a single name, Garage Door Group.
Chris, with his wife Lucie, son Jesse and daughter-in-law Bex, are all involved with the day to day running of the business. Zak, the eldest son, was on the tools in the early days but now keeps an eye on things from across the Tasman.
As a plumbing apprentice way back in the 1980s, Chris can recall his time in the sheetmetal shop in Gisborne, constructing Tilt-Doors under a watchful eye. Fast forward 40 years, time and technology have moved on, but his eye for detail and commitment to excellence has stuck with him. He likes to call it ‘old school values’. From quote acceptance to installation, we work hard to make it a seamless process. If required, we can have your door operational in two weeks. Architectural doors require a longer lead-in time.

Warkworth, Silverdale and Mangawhai Garage Doors were three businesses doing the same work for the same kind of customers a few kilometres apart. Bringing them together as Garage Door Group means one team, one phone number and vans covering the whole area every day. The people, the workshop and the standards did not change, only the name above them.
Chris, who owns the business, quotes the jobs and answers the phone himself. There is no account manager in between and no call centre. That is deliberate: it means nothing gets lost between the quote, the order and the install, and if something does go wrong you are talking directly to the person who can put it right.
New garage door sales and installation, garage door openers and motors, garage door insulation, repairs, servicing and maintenance, and remote supply and programming. We cover residential work, and light commercial roller doors for workshops and farm sheds. We also repair and service doors supplied by anyone else, which is a large part of what we do.
Yes, on both products and workmanship. COLORSTEEL® doors carry 10 years, other doors 2 years, openers 5 or 7 years depending on the model, our installation 1 year and our repair work 3 months. Our warranty page sets out the full terms and the servicing that keeps a new door covered. If something we supplied or repaired fails inside its cover, you call us and we come back and sort it out.
