Common questions
If it is a sectional door, usually yes, and retrofitting is a large part of the insulation work we do. Roller doors are a different construction and do not take panel insulation the same way, because the curtain has to coil into a drum. Send us a photo of the inside of your door and we will tell you what is possible before anyone makes a trip out to you.
It depends what you use the space for. If it is storage only, nothing in there minds the damp and you never spend time in it, the honest answer is probably not, because the rest of the building is still uninsulated and the door is only one surface. If you work, train or spend time in there, or you store anything that minds moisture, it changes the space completely.
It adds some weight, which is exactly why the springs have to be rebalanced as part of fitting it. That is included in the job when we do it. Adding insulation without rebalancing is how people end up straining the motor and wearing the door out years early, and it is the most common fault we find on doors that were insulated by someone else or as a DIY job.
Yes, in both directions, and this surprises people more than the temperature difference does. It cuts road and weather noise coming in, and it makes the door itself considerably quieter when it runs, because the panels stop drumming. If there is a bedroom above or beside the garage, this is very often the reason people go ahead with it rather than the energy saving.
